The Warrior Code

The Warrior Code is the set of laws every clan cat lives by. It was laid down by the first warriors and is upheld by StarClan. Breaking it brings dishonor to you and your clan.

The Core Laws

1. Defend your clan, even with your life

Loyalty to your clan comes before everything. You may have friends in other clans, but when battle comes, you fight for your own.

In game: Fighting enemies attacking your camp grants honor. Abandoning a clanmate in combat costs honor.

2. Do not hunt or trespass on another clan's territory

Each clan's prey belongs to that clan. Crossing a border to hunt is theft.

In game: Hunting on foreign territory triggers a border patrol and honor loss. Marking your own borders earns small honor.

3. Elders, queens, and kits eat before warriors

The weakest eat first. A warrior who takes prey from the fresh-kill pile while an elder goes hungry has broken the code.

In game: Always deposit prey before eating. Feeding elders first grants the "Honored Warrior" buff.

4. Prey is killed only to be eaten

Never kill for sport. Give thanks to StarClan for the life taken.

In game: Abandoning caught prey reduces honor. Consuming your catch restores stamina and grants a small honor bonus.

5. A kit must be six moons old to become an apprentice

Kits are never sent into danger before they are ready.

In game: Your character begins as a six-moon-old apprentice. Early quests focus on training, not combat.

6. Newly named warriors keep a silent vigil for one night

After receiving your warrior name, you sit alone through the night watching over the camp.

In game: The vigil is a scripted scene at the end of the warrior ceremony. Completing it unlocks your warrior den.

7. A cat cannot be made deputy without mentoring an apprentice

Leadership is earned through teaching, not just fighting.

In game: The deputy questline requires you to have trained at least one apprentice to warrior rank.

8. The deputy becomes leader when the leader dies or retires

Succession is clear, and the clan never goes leaderless.

In game: Leader transition is a story event. As deputy, you'll be called to the Moonstone to receive nine lives.

9. A new deputy must be named before moonhigh

The clan cannot be without a second-in-command.

In game: A timed quest follows any leader death. Failing it costs clan morale.

10. The Gathering is held at the full moon under truce

Once a month, all four clans meet in peace at Fourtrees. No fighting is permitted.

In game: Attacking during a Gathering causes severe honor loss and StarClan sends clouds to cover the moon.

11. Borders must be checked and marked daily

Patrols keep the territory secure and the scent lines fresh.

In game: Daily border patrols grant XP. Skipping them lets enemy patrols encroach on your land.

12. No warrior may neglect a kit in danger, even from another clan

Kits are sacred, regardless of clan.

In game: Rescuing a kit in distress grants a large honor bonus, even if it belongs to an enemy clan.

13. The word of the clan leader is the warrior code

The leader's judgment stands, even when you disagree.

In game: Refusing a leader's order costs reputation. Some story choices let you argue your case first.

14. An honorable warrior does not need to kill to win

Mercy is strength. Defeat your enemy, don't slaughter them.

In game: Spared enemies grant honor. Killing a defeated opponent costs it.

15. A warrior rejects the soft life of a kittypet

Clan life is hard, and that is the point.

In game: Using Twoleg food or shelter repeatedly reduces honor and locks the "Wild Heart" achievement.

Honor and Consequences

How Honor Works

ActionHonor
Feed an elder first+5
Complete a border patrol+10
Spare a defeated enemy+25
Rescue a kit+100
Trespass on foreign land−50
Abandon prey−25
Strike a clanmate−200
Break the Gathering truce−500

Ranks of Honor

  • Honored (800+) — Elders tell stories about you. Leader considers you for deputy.
  • Respected (400-799) — Normal clan standing.
  • Questioned (100-399) — Watched closely. Some quests locked.
  • Dishonored (0-99) — Exile threatened. Redemption questline unlocks.

When the Code Conflicts With What's Right

The code is not perfect. Elders will tell you about times when a cat had to choose between the code and doing what was right:

  • Taking in a kit from another clan after its mother died
  • Lying to protect an apprentice from a cruel mentor
  • Crossing a border to warn an enemy clan of a flood

Some choices cost honor but earn something else. The game tracks both.
